OpenAI Unleashes GPT-4 Turbo and Customizable AI Agents



OpenAI made some huge announcements today at their developer day event, unveiling new capabilities and products that showcase the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. The headlines include a new GPT-4 Turbo language model, custom GPTs for specific use cases, upgraded APIs, and more. Let's dive into the key announcements and their implications.


GPT4Turbo

OpenAI revealed GPT-4 Turbo, an upgraded version of their powerful autoregressive language model GPT-4. GPT-4 Turbo supports up to 128,000 tokens of context length, a massive increase from the previous 8,192 tokens. This enables the model to remember and reason over much longer texts - up to 300 pages of a book! GPT-4 Turbo is also 3x cheaper per token than GPT-4, making it more accessible.


The boosted context length and lower cost open up new possibilities for applications utilizing GPT-4. For example, GPT-4 Turbo could answer questions about long, complex texts it has ingested or generate content reflecting extensive background knowledge. The longer memory spans greater creativity and consistency in outputs. We can expect to see GPT-4 Turbo rolled out across OpenAI's products.


GPTs

One of the most intriguing announcements was the debut of GPTs - customized versions of ChatGPT fine-tuned for particular use cases. Anyone can build a GPT via the GUI "GPT Builder" by providing instructions, knowledge sources, and defining actions the GPT can take. This makes developing conversational agents accessible to non-programmers.


GPTs enable niche assistants - e.g. a travel planning bot, coaching bot, game guide bot. They can integrate outside data sources through OpenAI's new knowledge retrieval feature.
