Vapor Vault is a self-contained encrypted storage device for the sensitive information ordinary people need to keep close, private, and under their own control.

Passwords. Recovery codes. Private notes. Account details. Important links. Emergency information. The things that are too sensitive for a sticky note, too important to leave in an unprotected file, and too personal to hand over blindly to someone else’s cloud.

Vapor Vault creates a private local interface that you can access from your phone, tablet, or computer. Your information is stored on the device, encrypted with your passphrase, and made available only when you deliberately unlock it.

There is no cloud account, no subscription, and no remote company holding the master copy of your data.

Vapor Vault is designed for everyday people who want stronger control over sensitive information without needing to become security engineers.

It is a practical fit for:

  • Personal passwords and recovery codes

  • Household and emergency information

  • Small-business credentials

  • Device and network configuration notes

  • Private financial or account records

  • Estate and succession instructions

  • Travel copies of important information

  • Cryptocurrency recovery details of ordinary personal value

  • Any information that should remain private, local, and physically controlled

The current generation is intended to provide meaningful protection against common risks: lost devices, casual access, exposed files, cloud breaches, weak storage habits, and unauthorized users on a trusted local network.

It is not yet positioned as a defense against a well-funded laboratory attack, nation-state adversary, or an attacker willing to perform advanced hardware extraction on the device itself.

Vapor Vault is being built first for the person protecting important personal information—not someone securing a billion-dollar institutional wallet.

The larger mission

The current platform establishes the foundation: encrypted local records, passphrase-based authentication, physical controls, private networking, direct device access, controlled recovery, and locally managed software.

The long-term objective is substantially more ambitious.

 

Future versions are intended to incorporate dedicated secure-element hardware, device-bound cryptographic identities, authenticated encrypted communications, hardened manufacturing controls, and a security architecture closer to the systems used in high-assurance cryptocurrency wallets and other purpose-built custody devices.

The goal is to move Vapor Vault from a practical personal privacy appliance toward a platform capable of competing at the highest levels of secure local data storage.

But the mission remains the same: Give people a private place for important information that they can physically own, understand, and control.

Features

The Market Opportunity

Personal privacy is moving back into hardware.

People store some of their most sensitive information in places that were never designed to protect it: notes applications, unencrypted documents, spreadsheets, browser profiles, screenshots, email drafts, cloud drives, and pieces of paper.

Traditional password managers solve part of that problem, but they remain software services operating on general-purpose computers and phones. Encrypted USB drives protect files, but often provide a conventional storage experience rather than a purpose-built personal vault. Hardware wallets provide stronger physical custody, but they are primarily designed around cryptographic keys and financial transactions.

Vapor Vault is being developed for the space between them.

It is a dedicated, physically owned appliance for storing and accessing sensitive personal information through a simple local interface—without requiring cloud storage, a subscription, or a vendor-held account.

A category defined by convergence

Vapor Vault participates in several established and growing markets:

  • Password and credential management

  • Hardware-encrypted personal storage

  • Local-first privacy technology

  • Hardware authentication

  • Cryptocurrency self-custody

  • Consumer cybersecurity

  • Small-business credential and recovery management

 

Published estimates place the global password-management market alone in the billions of dollars annually. That figure should not be treated as Vapor Vault’s direct addressable market, but it demonstrates sustained demand for better ways to protect credentials and private information.

The wider hardware market provides additional proof.

Yubico has built a publicly traded security-hardware company around physical authentication. Kingston IronKey and Apricorn sell dedicated hardware-encrypted storage devices. OnlyKey combines hardware password management, authentication, and encryption. Ledger demonstrates that consumers will purchase purpose-built devices when physical custody and hardware-rooted security are central to the value proposition. Flipper Devices has sold more than one million units and generated more than $150 million in sales by creating an approachable, highly differentiated technology appliance.

Vapor Vault does not need to replace all of these products.

It needs to establish a clear, credible category of its own:

The personal privacy appliance.

 

The first Vapor Vault customer is not a bank, intelligence agency, or institution protecting billions of dollars in digital assets.

It is the everyday person who has sensitive information worth protecting:

  • Passwords and account recovery codes

  • Household and emergency records

  • Private notes and instructions

  • Small-business credentials

  • Network and device configurations

  • Estate and succession information

  • Financial account details

  • Cryptocurrency recovery information of ordinary personal value

  • Information that should not be left in an open file or automatically synchronized to the cloud

 

These customers are not necessarily facing a nation-state adversary or a laboratory attempting invasive chip extraction.

They are trying to protect themselves from far more common risks: lost devices, casual access, exposed files, weak storage habits, cloud account compromise, unauthorized household or workplace access, and the gradual spread of sensitive information across too many systems.

That is the initial commercial opportunity: security that is meaningful, understandable, physically controlled, and usable by ordinary people.

Local by design

Vapor Vault does not require cloud infrastructure to store the customer’s vault. That reduces recurring hosting costs, eliminates centralized customer-data custody, and avoids building a business model around monetizing or retaining user information.

Purpose-built experience

The device is not merely an encrypted flash drive. It provides a browser-accessible interface designed specifically for secure notes, credentials, recovery information, links, and private records.

Physical ownership

The customer controls the hardware, the passphrase, the operating mode, and the location of the vault. The product can be disconnected, stored, transported, locked, or powered down.

No mandatory subscription

The core product can be sold as durable hardware rather than a recurring cloud service. Optional future services may support updates, enterprise management, warranties, or recovery workflows, but the vault itself should remain useful without an active subscription.

Expandable security architecture

The current software platform already includes encrypted local records, passphrase-based key wrapping, device lifecycle controls, local sessions, physical-presence requirements, direct encrypted cloning, USB commissioning, and a native management Console.

Investment would fund the next security tier:

  • Dedicated secure-element integration

  • Device-bound cryptographic identity

  • Keys generated and protected inside hardened hardware

  • Authenticated encrypted communication between Console and Vault

  • Secure Boot and signed firmware

  • Flash encryption and encrypted configuration storage

  • Anti-rollback controls

  • Device-unique ownership claims

  • Hardened manufacturing and key-injection procedures

  • Independent security review and penetration testing

  • Power-failure, fault-injection, fuzz, and hardware-soak testing

  • Tamper-aware enclosure and board design

  • Portable encrypted backup and recovery

 

The objective is not to market the current development board as equivalent to an institutional hardware wallet. The objective is to use the current working platform as the foundation for a new class of consumer security device that can progressively approach that standard.

Commercial Model

Vapor Vault is expected to use a hardware-led, direct-to-consumer model.

Potential revenue channels include:

  • Direct hardware sales

  • Premium hardened hardware editions

  • Accessories and protective enclosures

  • Replacement and secondary Vault devices

  • Family and small-business bundles

  • Extended warranty and support plans

  • White-label hardware for privacy, financial, and technology brands

  • Licensed firmware and management software

  • Enterprise micro-vault deployments

  • Professional commissioning and security services

 

The goal is a sustainable security product with disciplined unit economics and enough margin to support the responsibilities that come with selling trusted hardware.

Development and Go-to-Market Plan

Phase One — Close the security architecture

Complete authenticated encrypted transport, device-unique ownership claiming, client-bound physical confirmation, improved throttling, encrypted backup, update signing, and final production threat modeling.

Select and prototype the secure-element architecture, including device identity, key generation, attestation, ownership transfer, recovery boundaries, and manufacturing key custody.

Phase Two — Engineering validation

Produce custom-PCB engineering units and validate:

  • Secure-element communication

  • Power and battery behavior

  • Wi-Fi reliability

  • Thermal performance

  • Flash and storage durability

  • Secure update and recovery procedures

  • Physical button and status behavior

  • Repeated power-loss scenarios

  • Manufacturing and provisioning workflows

 

Independent security specialists should review the final architecture before the product is represented as hardened consumer security hardware.

Phase Three — Controlled pilot

Produce approximately 250–500 pilot units for:

  • Early-adopter onboarding

  • Usability testing

  • Reliability measurement

  • Support-volume analysis

  • Manufacturing-yield validation

  • Warranty and return modeling

  • Real-world network testing

  • Security regression testing

 

The pilot should be used to validate demand and product economics—not merely to create inventory.

Phase Four — Commercial launch

Launch through direct sales, selected reviewers, privacy and technology communities, security professionals, and carefully chosen affiliates.

The first commercial message should focus on practical personal custody rather than exaggerated threat claims: A private, encrypted place for important information that you physically own.

Phase Five — Hardened and professional editions

Use customer data and security-review findings to develop:

  • Secure-element consumer edition

  • Higher-assurance professional edition

  • Small-business and family bundles

  • Offline backup and recovery accessories

  • White-label and licensed versions

  • Managed enterprise micro-vault architecture

 

Investment Opportunity

Vapor Vault has progressed beyond a concept.

The current platform includes working dual-target firmware, encrypted record storage, passphrase-based key protection, a shared embedded and desktop interface, USB commissioning, local operating modes, direct Vault-to-Vault cloning, a macOS Console, installer infrastructure, documented APIs, and a formal list of security release gates.

Recommended pre-seed target

$750,000–$1.25 million

The final amount should be tied to a detailed engineering budget, secure-element selection, third-party testing scope, certification strategy, manufacturing quotes, founder compensation, pilot volume, and an 18-month operating runway.

This funding would be intended to:

  • Complete the production security architecture

  • Develop custom secure-element hardware

  • Commission independent security testing

  • Establish secure manufacturing procedures

  • Complete macOS and Windows applications

  • Produce engineering-validation and pilot units

  • Protect the brand and relevant intellectual property

Milestone-based value creation

Vapor Vault should not publish speculative future valuations.

The company should instead measure value creation through verifiable milestones:

  1. Production security architecture approved

  2. Secure-element prototype demonstrated

  3. Encrypted device-authenticated transport completed

  4. Independent audit findings closed

  5. Custom PCB and enclosure validated

  6. Pilot manufacturing yield established

  7. Paid pilot demand demonstrated

Those milestones provide investors with a more credible basis for future financing than unsupported valuation projections.

Strategic Outcomes

Potential long-term outcomes include:

  • A profitable independent consumer-security hardware company

  • Acquisition by a password-management, identity, privacy, cybersecurity, financial-technology, or secure-storage company

  • White-label licensing to consumer privacy and financial brands
